Eye wrinkles can be the number one visual indication that someone is ageing and sadly often times eye wrinkles are very premature and come WAY before their time. My first eye wrinkles started in my late 20's and over the years they got deeper and deeper. I tried the cheap eye creams, and spent the money on expensive creams also, and nothing seemed to work. I found that most creams just plump the skin for a couple hours but the wrinkles still remain after the skin cream wears off, and the wrinkles are just as deep after a couple hours. The worst thing about eye wrinkles is they are almost impossible to get rid of. What works? I went to a dermatologist, and he showed me I had severely dehydrated skin. I tried the eye creams he recommended, and drank more water, and they softened a little bit, but the results fell quite short of a major difference. Recently, my wrinkles have reduced by a fraction of 70 % and I will tell you what I did:
I have been a coffee drinker since the age of 16, and I have to say I REALLY enjoy coffee. Living in Seattle, the coffee hub of both Starbucks and Seattle's Best, everyone here is a coffee drinker. Americans and Canadians love their coffee. I really started to fall in love with coffee when I moved out on my own and started using cream. A bit later I purchased my first espresso machine and fell in love with lattes with the thick cream content.
Two years ago, I decided to quit drinking coffee and it was rough. As I quit coffee, it took several hours for me to get motivated to work, and even half way through the day, I still had no desire to move. Before quitting I would jump out of bed to have my coffee and run around to get ready for my day, I suddenly found myself slumped at my desk unable to even get dressed, and then I would really have to feel motivated to do much else. Over the weeks I felt like a couch potato, not being able to get much of any work done. Over the weeks, I did get better, and my dependence of coffee let up. I switched to decaf teas, and I enjoyed the switch.
I eventually moved back to coffee over the next year, and loved the benefits of being able to get twice as much work done. Eventually I found myself in the predicament that I couldn't have cream in my coffee from an allergic reaction which totally took the enjoyment out of drinking coffee. At the same time several herb teas were recommended for my allergy, and I was pleasantly surprised how great they taste. I purchased several teas from Yogi Tea, and Traditional Medicinals, and found some of the natural licorice teas surprisingly delightful. The first time I tried Traditional Medicinal's Roasted Dandelion Root Tea, I didn't know if I liked it, but it has grown on me so much that I haven't found a hot or cold drink that I enjoy more. Many claim that roasted Dandelion Root Tea is very similar to roasted coffee and perhaps if you enjoy coffee, you can reap the benefits of this natural herb.
Every person in the western part of the world identifies the common dandelion as a unsightly weed on well-kept lawns, but few people know they are highly nutritious food. Dandelion root tea has shown to to stimulate the liver to increase bile flow. Proper bile flow is essential for getting rid of toxins. Once bile is released by the liver, its two main functions are to carry away waste and to break down fats during digestion.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Roasted Dandelion Root Herbal Tea, 16-Count Wrapped Tea Bags (Pack of 6)
Amazon sells the Organic Roasted Dandelion Root tea in packs of 6 for 20 dollars. At Whole Foods it ranges from $4-$6 dollars, so Amazon is essentially giving you 4 packages for free.
Not only does it treat a variety of liver and gallbladder disorders but it helps the digestion of fats. The release of bile is a laxative, and accelerates the breakdown of various steroid hormones, causing an indirect, favorable effect on eczema and other skin conditions.
It also stimulates urination but also replaces the potassium lost to the increased volume of urine. Dandelion’s beneficial effects on liver and biliary tract functionhave been proven in pharmacological studies. Dandelion Root also has been known to stimulat the breasts to develop milk. Some women report breast sensitivity when drinking an over abundance of Dandelion Root.
Dandelion Root is rich in vitamins and minerals and even micro-nutrients. It contains many components that are used in medicines, including insulin which is important in controlling diabetes. The dandelion root and leaves contain substantial levels of vitamins A, C, D, and B complex as well as iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, manganese, copper, choline, calcium, boron, and silicon.
Coffee on the other hand inhibits the absorption of some nutrients and causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and trace minerals, all essential elements necessary for good health. Caffeine also stimulates the excretion of stress hormones which can produces an increased level of anxiety, irritability, muscular tension and pain, indigestion, insomnia, and decreased immunity. Coffee also decreases blood flow to the brain by as much as 30% and negatively effects memory and mental performance.
Some more things to keep in mind about Coffee:
- Women who are pregnant or attempting to get pregnant should avoid excess caffeine consumption. Coffee may increase the risk for a variety of fertility problems. Some studies have shown it may increase the risk of miscarriage with the consumption of 2 or more cups of coffee per day.
-Excess coffee consumption could prevent the full absorption of necessary minerals
-Fibrocystic breast disease, PMS, osteoporosis, infertility problems, miscarriage, low birth weight infants, and menopausal problems (hot flashes) are all exacerbated by caffeine consumption
-If you're trying to loose weight, coffee has been shown to cause weight gain since insulin's message to the body is to store excess sugar as fat. Caffeine increases the risk of long-term weight gain by increasing stress hormones and creating a risk for hypoglycemia, which stimulates appetite. Although caffeine can assist with short-term weight loss, in the longer term, heavy consumption is more likely to lead to weight gain.
- Coffee acts just like cocaine, says scientist
- Caffeine elevates your heart rate and blood pressure. The more coffee you drink the more these levels increase. Over time, as your body gets used to caffeine, it needs higher amounts to get the same effects. This may be the reason why espresso machines are so popular. Having your body in a state of emergency all day long isn't healthy. In addition, long-term deep sleep is affected. If a person drinks a cup of coffee with 200 mg of caffeine at 4PM, by the time 10PM comes, they will still have about 100mg in their body. By 4AM, they still have 50mg in their system, and in a few hours they are ready to put their body in a state of alarm again. Not only do they miss the benefits of deep sleep, but their bodies are in a CONTANT state of emergency.
In comparison Dandelion Root can taste like coffee, as roasting the root gives it a coffee-like taste making it easy to use on a daily basis. Dandelion also starts cleansing and the absorbing the nutrients that we take. Unlike the coffee that is sold in the market, the Dandelion coffee has no harmful contents. People would be living healthy if they would start the day with a Dandelion Coffee.
Back to the original purpose of this article, after I cut out coffee, my eye wrinkles started to disappear and my skin started to gain back its moisture. You see, caffeine dehydrates the body and contributes to the aging of the skin and kidneys. It has been shown that caffeine can inhibit DNA repair and slow the ability of the liver to detoxify foreign toxins. Dry skin is more prone to developing stretch marks and premature wrinkles. After several years of trying to locate the right cream I never considered that coffee would have such a dehydrating effect on my bosy dispite increasing my water intake. After reducing the intake of coffee to one cup per week, my skin has recovered significantly. I feel just as energetic as I was on coffee by drinking Dandelion Root .
If you do decide to switch to an herbal tea, try reducing your coffee intake by having a few sips of coffee through the day instead of one cup every couple hours which does cause disruptions in your blood sugar levels.
The American Heart Association says that moderate coffee drinking (one or two cups per day) does not seem to be harmful for most people. As with everything else, moderation is the key to healthy caffeine consumption.
If you do decide to switch to herbal teas, quitting slowly by reducing the caffine may allow your body to gently be weaned off.
- Headaches are common with quitting cold turkey. This headache will last from one to five days. If you notice you get a headache without having your morning coffee, it will be assured you will experience headaches quitting.
- A green tea substitute has about 1/3 the amount of caffeine depending on the brand and could be a good alternative to wean off the coffee and caffeine. It is full of good antioxidants too!
- Some people report neck pains and nausea, and it certainly happened to me when I quit. I drank several cups of espresso through out my day, but over time, you tend to find that you have just as much energy than drinking regular coffee as you do drinking herbal teas
- Consider pumping your body with Vitamin C, which combats the intense anxiety, depression, inability to concentrate, and fatigue when going off of coffee.
- STICK it out. As you put into your body MORE natural vitaminsand natural herbs (which detox the body), EVENTUALLY you will feel more energized and at a natural state after your body expells the toxins. You will find the same with fasting. As you begin to fast, your body starts to rid it self of toxins, and a person will find they will feel tired, and have headaches, because so much toxins are leaving at once. I noticed this for several months when we would fast weekly. Eventually as you fast more often, and reduce the toxins into the body these symptoms will go away, and the body starts operating at a normal state. So at first your body may go through a battle, and the symptoms of that battle will be felt, but stick it out. YOU WILL see the benefits.
There is nothing wrong with drinking moderate coffee. ALTHOUGH, keep in mind the average person doesn't drink the recommended levels of caffeine. Every has to weigh benefits of caffeine and outweigh the potential risks.
You may want to experiment with tea samplers to see which type of Herbal tea you enjoy the most.
I have been impressed with Yogi, and Traditional Medicinal as their teas seem to be more intense and can be used more than once. I tend to re-use my old tea bag with a new one. I have Enjoyed the Breath Deep by Yogi as the Licorice is quite intense.
I have tried the Yogi Get Regular Herbal Laxitive. I would highly suggest experimenting with it on your days off to understand how it will effect your body. At times I have used this tea and have had cramps before having a BM. I haven't experienced diarrea on this tea, but abdominal cramping.
I am looking forward to trying Yogi Skin DeTox, and Yogi Egyptian Licorice. I have not enjoyed the teas that have ginger. Like everything you do have to experiment to see what you like and dis-like.
